The Revista Facultad de Jurisprudencia (RFJ) of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE) recognizes the value of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in research and editorial processes. However, the journal is committed to ensuring the ethical, responsible, and transparent use of these technologies. This policy outlines the guidelines for the proper use of AI in the production and review of academic content.

2. Ethical Use of AI in Research

• Declaration of AI Use: Authors must disclose whether they have used AI tools at any stage of their research, especially for text generation, data analysis, or visualization.
• Transparency and Responsibility: If AI tools were employed, authors must specify how and in which areas these tools were used in the methodology. Authors are fully responsible for the data and results produced with AI support.

3. Prohibition of AI Authorship
RFJ does not recognize AI as an author or co-author of any article. Authorship must be strictly human. Any contribution generated by AI must be clearly attributed to the tool used, with full responsibility assumed by the human authors.

4. Use of AI in the Review and Editing Process

• Editorial Process Assistance: RFJ may use AI tools to support editorial processes such as plagiarism detection, metadata analysis, or language quality assessment. However, these tools will never replace the professional and critical judgment of human reviewers and editors.
• Review of AI-Generated Content: Editors have the authority to verify that articles partially generated by AI meet academic integrity standards and that any AI-generated content is properly identified.

5. Transparency for Readers

• Disclosure in the Article: Authors must clearly indicate any use of AI in their articles, either in the methodology section or through a footnote, ensuring transparency and allowing readers to understand the extent of AI involvement.
• Licenses and Copyright: RFJ ensures that AI-generated or AI-assisted content does not infringe copyright laws and that any AI tools used comply with appropriate licensing policies.

6. Use of AI in Image and Data Generation

• Transparency in AI-Generated Images: Authors must disclose if they used AI to create or modify images, graphics, or data visualizations. These materials must adhere to scientific integrity standards and must not be misleadingly manipulated.
• Ethical Data Handling: Any AI tool used for data analysis must be applied transparently and must not alter data to support unfounded conclusions.

7. Responsibility of Authors and Editors
Authors and editors are responsible for ensuring that the use of AI does not compromise academic ethics or the integrity of the work submitted. Authors assume full responsibility for the content of their articles, ensuring it reflects original and authentic intellectual work without over-reliance on automated tools.
